Los Angeles City Council Bans Mobile Billboards

From KPCC – In a recent 14-to-0 vote, the Los Angeles City Council adopted an ordinance that gives traffic officers the authority to ax any billboard they dub unacceptable.

If the billboard is roaming the streets 24 hours after the officer issues a warning, it can be impounded, and the owner can be smacked with a $250 fine and possibly jail time.

Supporters of the ban say these rolling ads are more than eyesores — they’re traffic hazards, and take up valuable parking spaces.

But critics say banning billboards violates the first amendment.
