Santa Ana City Council removes Historic Resources Commissioner Who Sued City

Santa Ana Councilmember Michelle Martinez agendized the removal of her appointment to the city’s Historic Resources Commission and the City Council unanimously voted to remove him.

Here is the story from the Orange County Register – A fight over the future of more than a dozen old homes here cost a city commissioner his post late Monday.

The City Council voted 7-0, with no discussion, to remove Jeff Dickman from the city’s Historic Resources Commission. Dickman helped lead a lawsuit late last year against the city’s plans to demolish 15 old homes to make way for a redevelopment project.

The city pulled back those demolition plans rather than fight the lawsuit. The houses will stay standing – their doors padlocked and their windows boarded shut – until the city has a plan in place for how to use the land.

Dickman was not at Monday’s meeting. He said he knew that getting kicked off the city commission was “more than a mere potential” when he decided to participate in the lawsuit against the city.
